Singapore is today a flourishing city-state which has compensated for its lack of natural resources by becoming one of Asia’s leading trading and financial centres.
Symbol of this role is Cangi airport, more than once voted the "World’s Best Airport", opened to the public in 1981 and modernised a number of times. Covering a surface area of 280,000 m² and consisting of two terminals - T1 and T2, connected by an ultramodern train which takes just one minute to transfer passengers, with Terminal 3 under construction - in 2006 traffic amounted to 35 million travellers, earning it 22nd place in the world classification of travel hubs.
Terminal 1, the true international heart of the entire complex, is served by 56 airlines from all over the world, with traffic of 21 million passengers per year.
T1 is also structured to provide transiting users with maximum comfort, offering a terrace with swimming pool, large cinema, numerous shops, free internet, a hotel and various relaxation areas. An exceptionally high level of service guaranteeing quality at every level, offering the maximum and obviously demanding the maximum from suppliers. This includes cleaning and sanitising of the various areas which must be up to the standards of the structure and its international image.
In this context, a call for tender was issued to supply cleaning trolleys satisfying a lengthy series of requisites which can be summed up as high quality materials, toughness, safety, ergonomics, ease and convenience of use and adaptability to the characteristics of the structure.
The trolleys which passed the tough selection for use in Terminal 1 were IPC Ready System’s ACE 7 multipurpose trolleys with polypropylene structure and Rilsan uprights.
In the specific case of the ACE 7 trolleys for use to clean the toilets in Terminal 1, the basic structure with its two 15 l buckets and vertical wringer was left unchanged, but the standard 100 mm wheels were replaced by 125 mm wheels to make them run and manoeuvre better on the carpet which covers practically all treadable surfaces in the transit areas, thus facilitating their transfer from one room to another.
They are also provided with three polypropylene trays for objects, two handle supports and an ergonomic fibreglass bag support. On the customer’s request the trolleys were completed with side panelling designed to protect the trays, improve appearance and guarantee safety. The panelling produced by IPC Ready System consists of completely washable easy to replace panels of plasticized fabric, open on one side to provide discreet but immediate visibility of the contents of the shelves making up the structure.
The bag at the back has also been designed to satisfy precise requisites. Covered with a semirigid panelling with a closed bottom to prevent the rubbish from escaping, it has a rigid lid and two pockets for danger signs which can also be hooked externally to two special supports.
Fifty IPC Ready System trolleys have been working officially in Singapore airport since early August after having routed the fierce competition. But product quality, tenacity, the determination to pursue a real partnership relationship with customers, an ability to interpret the needs of the market and flexibility in responding to these needs are the added values which make IPC - and in this specific case IPC Ready System - leaders on the world cleaning market.
